Yesterday morning Rohan and I had a conversation regarding
Joseph Kony. I am wearing a Kony 2012
bracelet I got when I made donation to the Invisible Children network it’s a red
string with a silver coin on it that as Kony 2012 and a unique number assigned to
each bracelet mine is 1011876. Rohan
asked me what this was about why I was wearing it. When I explained it to him, he was genuinely
interested. He asked me who Joseph Kony
was, why he was a bad guy? Where did he live?
He even asked to see what he looked like. After we had this talk, we had a BUSY day
which included getting into BIG trouble with big brother. But they also had a birthday party, shopping,
running in the rain. Lots of stuff. So to my surprise later that night this was
the following conversation
“Mom, I need Zook for my collection” Rohan reminds me (Zook is a
figure the boys need for their video game Sky landers)
“I know baby, Zook, short for Bazooka, got it”
“What’s a Bazooka” he asks
“It’s a big gun, thingy, daddy what’s a bazooka?”
“It’s a rocket launcher” Eric says smiling, walking into the
kitchen
“Oh, I want one of those” Rohan says eyes wide
“Baby, you can’t just have a bazooka, you can go into the
military though, I bet they give you one there”
“Military?”
“Yeah, like the Navy, or Army, Marines, air force, I bet you
could even join the police and get one there”
“I want to go to the one that gives me a bazooka and then I will
go and fight the bad guy in Africa to help those kids”
I love teachable moments. I love how it still stayed with him later. Awesome kids, they are.
